Neta's [art]work astonishes me. I don't think I grasped at the time how powerful and experimental it is. It resonates... the Spence students starting classes next week would not have the freedom they have without Neta having kicked down the door of claiming one's own identity. At the time, probably a lot of kids and faculty didn't understand gender diversity, or breaking dress code or changing hair color and make-up daily. But now, such things are common, accepted, and (sometimes) embraced. No one, before or since has done it with such panache and creative punch as Neta... That was pioneering, trailblazing! And the entire Spence community has Neta to thank for pushing that door wide open.
